FINAL POSTER

My final Ad is a variation of my first one. The differences here are that flames have been added to the bottom a main stay of heavy metal, keeping to the old style 1980's albums. Bullet holes with blood splatters have also been added which help to accentuate the main title. The contrast of colour helps it stick out and it also looks really cool.
The pictures have had borders put around them so they stand out from the background and so to keep things neater the subtitle had to be shrunk to keep symmetry.
The big bold "southern state bar" style text was enlarged slightly to be more eye catching, and the original idea of the ironic style of the "red, white and blue" is still there.
In order to choose this one i asked some of my peers which of my ads they thought looked most proffesional and suitable for a heavy metal band. Then having narrowed it down from 3 to 2 i decided to update two of them and then see which would then be the most suitable.

Costume

For my band they come under the catergory of Heavy/ Progressive metal. This means they need to dress accordingly. However they're also a comedic act in an ironic sense. Therefore i feel that the masked or face paint route may be a little hard core for this group. The two bands who my group resemble the most on my picture graph are Avenged Sevenfold and A Day to Remember. This is the sort of atire that i will dress my band in. Not quite so costume based but rather casual clothes with one or two references to another heavy group.

Heavy Metal background

This is a small amount of research into the brief history of heavy metal in order to get a taste of what styles, costume and locations i may need to experiment with.

Band Photoshoot

These shots are from my band photoshoot. There were a few more but these ones were the "least" unproffesional looking ones. They look serious enough with the black and white settings. But theres a playful attitude behind the seriousness, making it a nice juxstaposition.

Mayhem Posters

These two poster illustrate the contextual settings of my band amongst its contemporaries. Amongst the other heavy metal names and logos "the cult placebo" blends in nicely and wouldn't have stood out as an artificially created band. The posters also illustrate the type of festivals that "the cult placebo" would play at. Mayhem is an artifical festival based on the likes of "Download" and "Sonisphere". Illustrated below.

Band Ad drafts

These three ads are my first draft at a band promotional ad. All of them have large eye catching titles. They all have a dark colour scheme but also the red, white and blue is used in an ironic patriotic sort of way.
They also have quite humorous subtitles that will arouse an interest in the readers. The pctures are also only in black and white so that the colours are kept to a minimal emphasizing the boldness of the band name and album name.

Changes to the back cover

Due to the lack of printer capabilities there is no colour availible. This means that the back has to be in black and white but it also has to have a lower resolution than the front cover. Unfortuntaley the only resolutions are 1200DPI, 600DPI and 300DPI. 300DPI isn't nearly enough and the pixels are clearly visiible. 600 is a good standard and 1200 is too high the resolution is saturated and lines become visible. Because of the small range of resolutions when the album is printed on high quality paper the quality is visibly reduced.

Album Mk.1

This album is my first attempt to make a 3D version of my 2D designs. The updated back cover has yet to be placed on the reverse.

Updated back cover

My updated back cover is now the specific dimensions of  a CD case. Making it a little wider and thinner. It has had some extra song choices added and now encompasses a bar code, the Dolby Digital logo, the CD logo and the Roadrunner records label.
I chose the Roadrunner label as it is one of the few mainstream labels that signs mainly rock and metal bands.

Digipak Advertisments

For my album advertisment im going to make a double page spread with the band as the centerpiece and the album will be shown. The magazines i'll be taking ideas from will be traditional rock magazines e.g. Kerrang, Metal Hammer etc. All though most of these will be magazine covers the same principals from them can be applied to my advert page.

Band Photoshoot Ideas

The photoshoot will serve multiple uses. The back of the CD case is going to have a picture of the band and on the advertisment in the magazine the album will be surrounded by pictures of the band. What follows are famous band picture shots to give an idea of what my pictures will be like.
